KATHLEEN SLOAN is a Los Angeles based violinist active as both soloist,
second violin in the classical-crossover Sonus Quartet, as well as a session
musician in the film and recording industries. With performances on such
diverse stages as Carnegie Hall to Lollapalooza, Sloan’s musical career has
included concerts throughout the USA, Canada, Europe and Asia. Recently, Sloan
appeared with Cirque Musica in aerial performances of the Tchaikovsky Violin
Concerto with both the San Diego Symphony and Dallas Symphony Orchestra.
Before moving to Los Angeles, Sloan was a member of both the Houston Grand
Opera and Houston Ballet Orchestra from 2003-2010, having previously served
as Concertmaster for the Abilene Philharmonic for two seasons.
SONUS QUARTET - Sloan’s work with the Sonus Quartet has included
collaborations with Stevie Wonder at the Library of Congress where President
Obama awarded Wonder the Gershwin Prize, as well as recordings on Danger
Mouse’s project “Dark Night of the Soul”, a collaboration of music by
Danger Mouse, Sparklehorse, and famed director David Lynch. Sonus maintains
a close working relationship with film composer Clint Mansell (Pie, Requiem
for a Dream, Wrestler) and has appeared in concert with Mansell at the Ghent
International Film Festival in Belgium, Union Chapel in London as well as
Tenerife International Film Festival in the Canary Islands.
TV - Sloan's television appearances include The Grammys, The American Music
Awards, The MTV Music Awards, The Late Show with David Letterman, The
Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, The Late Late Show with Craig
Furguson, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Tonight Show with Conan
O’Brien, America’s Got Talent as well as American Idol.
RECORDING -Sloan has recorded on the albums of Sir Paul McCartney,
Michael Jackson, Michael Bublé, Jackie Evancho, Michael Bolton and Daft Punk
to name a few. In addition, Sloan has recorded on the film scores of composers
such as Clint Mansell, Danny Elfman, Mychael Danna, Mike Verta, Debbie Lurie,
Jane Cornish as well as John Powell.
COLLABORATIONS - Sloan has also performed with such esteemed artists as
Elton John, Rod Stewart, Michael Bublé, Natalie Cole, Stevie Wonder, Andrea
Bocelli, Wynonna Judd, Billy Idol, Carrie Underwood, Brian McKnight, Justin
Timberlake, Rihanna, Eminem, Cee Lo Green, Tom Jones, and Usher.
TOURS - Sloan has toured with Alternative Rock/Hip Hop artists Gnarls Barkley,
Classical/Pop Pianist, William Joseph, Rock Alternative band, Adamo, and Film
Composer, Clint Mansell. Most recently, Sloan toured with Josh Groban’s 2011
Straight to You tour.
EDUCATION - At the age of three, Sloan began studying the violin with Suzuki
violin teachers Suzanne Walker and Bette Dyer. She later studied with Dallas
Symphony Concertmaster, Emanuel Borok, as well as Fredell Lack. At 15, Sloan
was accepted into the Cleveland Institute of Music’s Young Artist Program where
she began her college studies under the tutelage of David Cerone. She later
graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Southern California as a
student of Los Angeles Philharmonic Concertmaster, Martin Chalifour. Sloan
plays on a Lorenzo Ventapane (Naples 1802).
